What Is Taxation?
Taxation can be a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) or a Master of Science Degree (MS). Sometimes Taxation is combined with Accounting, so you might earn a degree in “Accounting and Taxation.” There are differences between each type, so make sure to read the fine print of each degree program.
You might think of Taxation as a specialty in the Accounting world. A Taxation Degree makes you a tax specialist who knows how to apply complicated tax law to real world scenarios. While an Accounting major also learns about taxes, he or she will not go as deep into the subject as a Taxation major will. Many people who have earned undergraduate degrees in Accounting decide to get their Master’s Degrees in Taxation.
In most states, a Master’s in Taxation will qualify you to sit for a CPA exam. Check with your specific state for more information.
