Radek, what jobs can you get with a Culinary Arts Degree? I’m wondering, what can I do with a Culinary Arts Degree?
Students who major in culinary arts and/or chef training usually go into the food service industry. They work as chefs, head cooks, prep cooks, pastry chefs, managers, and servers. They work in restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts, residential facilities, cafeterias, bars, schools, and resorts. A few even work aboard merchant ships or cruise ships. Some work for food manufacturers. Some work in retail. Some work for themselves, as private chefs or caterers.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities in this industry are expected to be good, despite a slower than average employment growth. Many people are leaving the occupation, due to stress and the fast pace, and need to be replaced. However, there will be keen competition for the most satisfying and highest paying jobs.
I chose to major in Culinary Arts because I was good at it and it was fun! I realized that if I were to work as a chef or baker, then I would get to have fun at work. I love majoring in Culinary Arts because I get to learn about a lot of aspects of food that I never really thought about, and all the different techniques and ingredients from around the world. I am fascinated by all the work that goes into the food we eat!
