Dieticians are employed in four main areas: clinical, community, management, and consultant.
Clinical dieticians work in health care facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes, planning meals that meet individuals’ medical needs.
Management dieticians plan menus for large groups of people. They also oversee the making of the meals, ensuring quality and safety. They are often employed by residential facilities, correctional facilities, and schools.
Community dieticians work within the community, helping individuals and families to make good choices about the foods they eat. They are found teaching classes and working in community centers, health clinics, and schools. They are usually employed by cities, counties, and states.
Consultant dieticians usually work for themselves and are hired by individual clients for independent jobs. They often work from a home office. Sometimes they work in conjunction with a fitness center or a gym. They sometimes work as health coaches.
Some dieticians go into food processing and supplement manufacturing. Some go into sales.
