If one has earned a degree in American Literature, then he or she is a strong communicator and an excellent reader. These skills come in handy in a job search.
Many people who earn degrees in American Lit go on to become teachers, often high school English teachers. Many become writers: creative writers, technical writers, copywriters, and journalists. Because these people are talented readers, they make great editors, and often work for publishing companies, magazines, and independent writers.
Some American Literature majors also go on to work as librarians, though, depending on the library, this might require further study and/or certification. Many people who study American Literature go on to graduate school.
